Since 2002 the exhibition Rendez-vous has taken place once a year. It was initiated by the Lyon Museum of Contemporary Art in close collaboration with the National School of Fine Arts of Lyon. In 2003, the Institute of Contemporary Art in Villeurbanne joined the two, and it is since this time that these three institutions coproduce the show. Priority to young and rising artists, who have recently graduated, as well as autodidacts are exhibited. The exhibition is presented alternately in each of the three places. For the 2008 edition, it will be held at the Lyon Museum of Contemporary Art.
The exhibition is understood as a platform for mutual exchange. It has the aim to help young artists to establish their international and professional networks. The show wants to foster and to promote artistic creation of the Rhône-Alpes Region. The project encourages artists to work with all media and in all genres: painting, sculpture, video, installations... and at the same time to create new artworks. The design of the exhibition is produced by young graphic designers. In 2007, a catalogue of 156 pages was published which presents each artist.
At this year's exhibition, 20 young artists are presented to the public.

More information
Conceived as a platform to encourage exchange, and intended to create links with an international network of professionals, the exhibition places the emphasis on young creation in the Rhône-Alpes Region. It supports new projects, painting, photography, sculpture, video, installations... very much anchored in today's world.
It also favours an international visibility for participants by allowing the movement of artists in non European structures.
In May 2008, Rendez-vous was exported to the Shanghai Art Museum in China, giving strong visibility to these young artists, in a very dynamic Chinese artistic context.
The project also joined a network of international residences in partnership with prestigious non-European institutions.
From the Rendez-vous 2008, the artists chosen for an international residence are:
Yan GAO chosen by Jérôme Sans, director of Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing
Elise CAM chosen by Silvia Karman Cubiña, director of Bass Museum of Art, Miami
Dae Jin CHOI chosen by Daria Pyrkina, curator of National Center for Contemporary Art, Moscow
Linda SANCHEZ invited by Victoria Noorthoorn, independent curator, Buenos Aires
