At the launch of the 9th Shanghai Biennale - Reactivation, The Shanghai Inter-City Pavilions’ Project focuses on the interesting connections and energy exchanges between people and cultures which, in nowadays globalized world, are more likely to be identified within local communities rather than in national contexts.

The 9th Shanghai Biennale will be presented in the future Museum of Contemporary Art of Shanghai, a site of 44 000 m². Thirty cities and regions are invited for this event: Amsterdam, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Antwerp, Barcelona, Moscow. In France, are invited the City of Lille and the Région Rhône-Alpes.

Thierry Raspail, curator invited by the Région Rhône-Alpes, chose to present two artists:
Marc Desgrandchamps and Robert Combas.
